Basement Shoot
These shots will take place in the band’s basement studio.
Each shot will require some preparation and set dressing first.
Spooky Hallway Set — no extras
Black curtains on C stands will be set up six-ish feet away from the existing long wall of black curtains, creating a makeshift hallway.
Spider webs and black cloth will be draped between the two curtain walls to create a spooky environment. Colored lights and decorations will add ambiance.
One band member at a time will be filmed in the hallway, with no extras needed.
These shots will be filmed in short bursts, focusing on just a few verses at a time.
Spooky Hallway Stationary — no extras
Camera will move through hallway towards each individual band member in a dynamic way, possibly moving back and forth for added variety.
Spooky Hallway Walking — no extras
Each band member will walk down the hallway solo while singing their verse lyrics.
They may paw through the cobwebs and weave around as if navigating a haunted house.
Laundry Room Set
We will use the basement laundry room as a set if we can’t make it work to film at a real laundromat. It will require cleaning and set dressing first, so an external laundromat will be the priority.
Band staring at laundry shot
We will need to experiment with angles. It may be best from the side so we can see both band members and the laundry — or we may shoot coverage head-on for each.
Goth folding laundry shot
We would prefer to get this with multiple goths at a laundromat, but we may need to settle for filming a goth folding laundry in the home laundry room.
Couch Set — All Extras
We will dress up a couch in black drapery and surround it with spooky decor on end tables and other surfaces.
We will make space to stage extras on, around, and possibly behind the couch depending on how many we have.
The shots will be framed tight to keep the subjects just in the shot, and to avoid showing unwanted ceiling or floor sections which have not been draped or carpeted.
Vampire Attack Couch Shot – All Extras
Band sits on couch with goths surrounding them wearing vampire teeth, swarming in on band with claws out.
Props – vampire teeth
Band Center Couch Shot – 3-5 Extras
Band sits on couch singing the lyrics with goths to either side.
Goths on the ground in front, pawing up at the band in a traditional misogynistic rap shot which centers the band as idol worship.
Goths Center Couch Shot – 2+ Extras
Goth extras sit on the couch in the center, and sing the lyrics.
The band is on the ground pawing at the goths in subservience.
Soft Pillows Shot – 1 extra
This shot is dependent on someone volunteering to be the pillows.
POV from the chin of a goth looking down at their breasts without showing their face. They should be lying down on the couch, possibly with their feet over the back and their head hanging down off the front.
Doctor Octave lays down on the couch so that his head comes into the shot and settles into the cleavage as he sings the line “I need pillows so soft where I lay my head; want a big tiddy goth girl in my bed”
Spooky Room Set — All Extras
This may be very similar to the couch set but without the couch. If we re-use design elements they should be arranged differently and the colored lighting should be different.
The room should be decorated as spooky as possible, in as wide of a shot as we can get, to fit every dancer we have in the shot.
We will film the entire song with the dancers in this room many times, in sections as needed.
Foot Stool Wide Shot
Band is on the floor on all fours. Goths surround them and sing the lyrics while putting their boots on the band members’ backs as foot stools.
Foot Stool Close-Up Shot
Close-up of Professor Robot on all fours, singing the lyric “The boots stay on whenever she’s fucking cause there’s too many straps that need unbuckling”, while goths one at a time put a boot on him.
Spooky Room Band Center — All Dancers
The band is in the center of the room with dancers behind and to the side.
The whole song will be filmed in sections.
Spooky Room Goths Center — All Dancers
The goths will be singing the lyrics in the center and the band will be on either side dancing.
The whole song will be filmed in sections.
Skeleton Gifting Shot
Coverage of both sides of the interaction as the two band members each give an identical skeleton with a ribbon on it to two goth extras.
Extras react and jump up and down with excitement.
Denny’s shoot (1 extra)
We need to film at, or simulate, a Denny’s for the line “Take a break, go to Denny’s at 3 in the morn; she’s topping her waffles with candy corn”.
If we actually film at Denny’s we can get an order of waffles and have a real set with everything we need.
Doctor Octave will sit across the table from the goth GF as she pours a bag of candy corn over her waffles.
He will be sipping coffee from a mug (either a Denny’s mug or the coffin-shaped Elvira mug)
We can do this without waffles (and also make it a repeatable shot) if we just film from the goth chin POV and see an arm pouring candy corn and it falls down off camera, with Doc Octave in the background sipping the coffee.
Props: coffee mug, candy corn, plate of waffles
Laundromat shoot (1-3 extras)
This shot will be used during the first 10 seconds of the song only.
This shot will be edited in Black and White.
LOCATION – Interior – coin-op laundromat — Band + 1 or more extras
Band sits in their costumes, staring stone-faced into the washing machines.
A woman in goth stockings walks by and the band’s eyes follow her out of the shot — or, cut to one or more shots of goth chicks folding laundry.
Props — if we have an extra to fold laundry we need to bring goth clothing to fold.
Sad Park Shoot
This shot will be used approximately from 1:52-1:59 in the song (7-10 seconds max).
LOCATION – Exterior – Ventura Park – No extras
Band will stand in a park and look sad.
Camera will set up at 4 distances to capture both band members in the same shot — wide, medium, near, and close-up.
Additional Extreme close-ups of each individual band member’s sad face.
Props – if possible to hold a black balloon and somehow trigger it remotely to pop (bb gun? squib?)
Spirit Halloween Shoot
This shoot will use all the dancers we can get. We will film the whole song multiple times.
LOCATION – Exterior – Spirit Halloween Gresham – Parking lot after close – ALL DANCERS
Wide shots
Band and dancers staggered in parking lot doing goth dances inspired by the cybergoth dance party moves
Near shots
Band singing lyrics into camera with dancers behind. Potentially same goth dancing or some new choreography.
Cemetery Shoot
We will have multiple shots in a cemetery. Most shots will require all our dancers and extras, and involve filming the whole song at least twice.
LOCATION – Exterior – Lone Fir Cemetery — ALL DANCERS
Pentagram Formation Shot – 5 dancers
This is the most involved shot at the cemetery shoot.
5 dancers will be spaced around the band, each one at the point of an imaginary pentagram with the band at the center.
(E = Extra, B = Band member)
E
E B B E
E E
The dancers should be arranged on a slope so there is natural height variation from the front to the back.
It will be shot from the bottom of the pentagram, so the single person is the furthest back and the highest vertically in the shot.
The entire shot will be done 5 times, with the dancers rotating each way through the 5 pentagram points.
Each time through the positions will only last half of the song, so this will take closer to 15 minutes than 30.
Arms of Shiva Shot – All Dancers
This will be used as interstitial shots and does not need to sync with lyrics.
The dancers will stand in a line ordered with the largest closest to the camera, so that only the front person’s body is visible, and then they will extend their arms in patterns similar to the arms of Shiva.
We will need to coordinate and choreograph the precise arm movements on-site with the dancers.
We will likely need to count out some timing and give verbal instruction to ensure coordinated movement.
Entourage Stationary Shot – All Extras
Band stands with as many extras around them as possible, at a stationary location (statue, mausoleum, glade, etc.)
Camera can move but band and extras will be standing still.
Band will sing lyrics while extras look spooky, pose, posture, glance, etc.
We will film the whole song two or three times, in sections, with pauses to change direction and poses of extras.
Entourage Walking Shot — All Extras + 1 assistant
Band sings while walking through the scenery with all the extras following in a tight group and looking spooky cool, all facing the camera.
Camera operator will need to walk backwards to keep the group in the shot. We will need an assistant to help guide them while they are keeping their eyes on the camera.
We will film the whole song two or three times, in sections, with pauses to change direction and poses of extras.
Gravestone Boot Lyric Shot — 1+ extra in boots
Close-up of Professor Robot rapping in front of / next to a grave stone where a goth is putting up their boot on the stone.
Any gravestone we film where the name is legible needs to be more than 50 years old.
This will just be for the lyric “The boots stay on whenever she’s fucking cause there’s too many straps that need unbuckling”.
